There are no more heroes
When I was growing up a hero was Captain America, Superman, Shazam or the Mighty Thor, they seemed to me, invincible. Flying over tall buildings to smash Lex Luthers robots , destroying the enemies of Asgard or deafeating the Red Skull in hand to hand combat. Those were the heroes most kids my age looked up to defeat the bad guys, now, anyone can be a hero all of a sudden. Yes, the reality is they really dont exist but that was the point, it was a dream. Imagining your fighting side by side with Iron Man or cleaning up the streets as Dardevil, those were great times, but the heroes now can be anyone who picks up a piece of garbage on the street or shows up to work on time 5 days in row. A guest spot on Oprah is some shmuck who helped an old lady take her groceries in on a rainy day ( not that this person wasn't a good guy but come on a hero !! ) The police officer now is a daily hero and the firefighter is basically a saint since 911 thats all just way too much hot dog and apple pie for me. If every good deed thats done by someone constitutes as an heroic act then i have no idea anymore what to call the heroes I grew up with and that really burns my ass and I just wont have that .

Right now, I'm a hero because I agreed to my daughter's request that we campout in the backyard! Am I looking forward to this? NO, do I like being a hero, YES.
I think you are my hero Red Star because you echo my sentiments exactly on this subject, the second one in a row.
I have a feeling, Ed, that there will be more subjects that you both agree on...and that scares me. :-)
