Barter Town
Has any of my two or three readers seen Road Warrior ? Its a great story that continues from Mad Max and tells the story of how fuel is worth more than any other form of currency and anyone with bigger guns will kill the ones with smaller guns to gain possession of it, how prophetic. My wife said something very profound as well and that was seeing anyone driving a huge SUV or pickup truck and smoking a pack of cigarettes must be rich and I got to thinking that she isn't too far off from the truth. Is this what it will come down to in the next ten years? What separates the rich from poor is a gallon of gas and a pack of smokes? How about electricity? or water? I'm sure those are next down the line. This is all making me feel really sick to my stomach so I'll stop now (ick)

I did see that movie a long time ago.
I have a hard time getting worked up over gas prices. I think anyone should have seen this coming from several decades ago as countries like China started becoming industrialized. We shot ourselves in the foot by ignoring it and continuing to increase our consumption with bigger vehicles and a house out in the burbs and not focusing our attention towards renewable fuels. Now we are paying the piper. Eventually it will hurt enough people that we do reduce our consumption and then the price will stabilize and perhaps go down.
Usually, only the insecure rich (movie people) and the stupid poor are smokers. I also believe most of the SUV drivers we see just wish they had money. The vehicle compensates for other short-comings.
